March 18 we gathered together again and did brew the Dark Ale.
I did mash on my regular schedule: 30 minutes for protein rest at 122F, 75 minutes at 152F and mash out for 15 minutes at 164F. OG was 1.047.
I'm gonna rack it coming Friday, just before the next brew.
The coming beer will be Dark Wheat Ale. Recipe is coming.
I've got some Coopers Lager kit on sale in my nearby store. 14 bucks looks OK to try.
But after reading the reviews I decided to tweak it a bit and went with some custom recipe.
I also reduced the batch volume to 3.7 gallons. OG turned out to be 1.042 after all tweaks.
Here is the recipe (Pale Liquid Extract is the kit itself):
Full batch (22 gal) of Meadows Cream Ale (OG 1.047).
I did protein rest for 30 minutes at 122F, mash it for 75 minutes at 142F and mash it out for 15 minutes at 160F.
Final gravity after 4 weeks - 1.009
